  • Partner of the project "Travelife" that aims at the integration of sustainability criteria
    in the whole product-chain of package tours

3. Scandic hotel chain, Sweden

  • 147 hotels with a revenue of more than EUR 720 million in 2007
  • All Swedish hotels are certified with the Swan ecolabel
  • Monthly sustainability indicator reporting of the hotels: An average night at Scandic in 2006 produced 3.1 kilos of fossil CO2 per guest
  • The chain announced in 2007 their objective that "[...] our activities have zero fossil CO2 emissions by 2025."
  • Recognition by many awards: for instance, IMEX Green Meetings Award 2008 (Gold)

6. VELIB – Bikes in Paris, France

  • Project of the local authorities in cooperation with private investors
  • Vélib’ is a self service bike hire system available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • A bike-station every 300m and 20,000 bicycles
  • First 30 min are free of charge, then about a €1,- for 30 min

  • The project is managed by Sustainability Northwest in cooperation with governmental, academic and non-governmental organisation
  • Analysis of climate change impacts on tourism
  • Development of a practical framework for adaptation

  • Offsetting Organisation
  • Founded in the year 2003; turnover of around a Million; joint initiative of forum anders reisen, Germanwatch and the German Federal Environment Ministry
  • Only Gold Standard projects; cooperation with the travel industry (e.g. Thomas Cook)

9. ADFC, Germany

  • German Bicycle Federation
  • Founded in the year 1979; around 100.000 members
  • A German organisation which has been successfully motivating politicians to develop bicycle tourism (almost CO2-free form of travel) (e.g. Bett&Bike and Discovering Germany by Bike)

10. SAMO – Soft mobility in Werfenweg, Austria

  • Destination with around 1,800 beds
  • A project in cooperation of the local municipality and tourism association
  • Tourists can exchange the key of their car against a SAMO pass which allow to use all means of transport for free (e.g., electro scooters, bicycles, go-kart, local taxi, Segway) – around 3000 people participate per year
  • Pick up service at the station
  • Network with Alpine Pearls
  • Awarded with several prices (e.g., Eurosolar 2003, Energy Globe 2006 in Austria)
